The Peace River-Westlock riding came into existence when the 42nd Federal Election was called, as part of the 2012 Federal Electoral Boundaries Redistribution. It consists of pieces of the previous ridings of Peace River, Fort McMurray-Athabasca, Yellowhead, and Westlock-St. Paul. This riding has an area of 105 095 square km, which is slightly larger than the country of Iceland. It’s largest populations centres are Whitecourt, Peace River, Westlock and Barrhead. Being a mostly rural riding, the population density works out to 1 person per square kilometer.
